INEC 2026 Permanent Staff Recruitment Guidelines, Errors and Solutions

Submission of applications for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) 2026 permanent staff recruitment into Professional, Administrative and Executive Positions are currently on top gear and will be closed on 27th July, 2026.

The recruitment exercise is opened for eligible applicants from the 36 States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Candidates and the general public should note that the recruitment is for permanent staff positions not ad-hoc staff that INEC normallly employed temporarily for the general and state elections.

Successful applicants in the recruitment will be employed as permanent federal government staff and will be posted across Nigeria.

Applicants are expected to only submit their applications through the link above and the recruitment process is free of charge.

INEC 2026 Recruitment Categories

The recruitment exercise has three job categories which are

  • Professional Positions
  • Administrative Positions
  • Executive Positions

You are advised to visit the recruitment portal, carefully check on all the job vacancies eligibility requirements. Note that after selecting a particular vacancy you can’t change it again. Therefore careful review is needed by the applicants before they begin their registration.

Common Application Issues and Their Solutions

May candidates are experiencing difficulties while trying to apply or after their submitting their applications, We have pinpoint the most common issues faced by the applicants and the possible solution to them.

1. Application Sections Showing “Required”

Some applicants are noticing a “Required” in the application stages even after inputing their information and uploaded the requested document on that stage.

Note that this happens when the required information and document have not been completed.

For example, when uploading your birth certificate or declaration of age, make sure to follow the these steps:

  • Provide your date of birth in the space provided for that.
  • Click save
  • Scroll down to and click on the document upload icon.
  • Upload your birth certificate in PDF or image format, ensure your file is not bigger than 300kb.
  • When successfully uploaded, save the section again.

Once you follow the above steps, the section status will now change to 100%, meaning you have completed the stage successfully, Now proceed to next section.

2. Email Already Exists

Another notification that displays to some applicants while trying to create a profile is:

“Email Already Exists”

This is telling you that particular email address has been used to create an account on the recruitment portal.

May be you have given someone your details to apply for you, or try to create an account and it has opened but you didn’t know.

When this occurred, Click on login button, use your the email address and your National Identification Number (NIN) to login and continue your application.

3. Selected the Wrong Job Vacancy

Candidates who made the mistake of selecting a wrong category that do not matched their qualifications have messed up their applications as currently the portal do not give chance to correct the mistake.

Unfortunately, applicants can not make the correction of changing job vacancy after selection.

Before starting your application make sure to do the following:

  • Read the instructions and eligibility requirements carefully.
  • Make sure your qualifications and certificates match that position.

Verdict: You cannot change your selected vacancy at the moment.

4. Age Limit

The INEC 2026 recruitment applicant’s age requirement is not more than 35. Though the portal is allowing candidates above the age limit to submit their applications it doesn’t mean you are eligible.

5. First Name, Last Name and Other Names

This names variance is confusing some applicants as they cannot differentiate between them. The correct arrangement and meaning is briefly explained below:

  • First Name: The given name by your parents.
  • Last Name: Sometimes called ‘Surname” is your father’s name.
  • Other Names: Called “Middle name”  in some application forms means your additional, third, family or your village name.

Applicants without third name can leave the space blank without inputing anything.

6. Required Documents for Upload

You need to prepare the documents I will mention below before you start your application process:

  • Passport photograph
  • Birth Certificate or Declaration of Age.
  • Certificate of State of Origin/Indigene Certificate
  • Secondary School Certificate (SSCE) – WAEC, NECO, NABTEB, etc.
  • Highest Educational Qualification
  • NYSC Certificate (where applicable)

When uploading these documents, make sure they are well scanned or snapped and not bigger than 300kb size.

7. How to Print Your Application Reference Number

Candidates who submitted the applications but couldn’t see their Reference number can now login back to their profiles, follow these steps to check:

  • Login to your application profile
  • Click the menu icon at the top left of the screen.
  • Click on the tab with your full name at the bottom of the screen.
  • Select Application Reference to view it.
  • Your application reference number will appear as this:

INEC-2026-0000XXXX

  • Download or print the reference slip and keep it for future use in the recruitment process such as CBT.

8. Email Notification After Submission

The INEC recruitment is not sending a reference application summary or slip to applicant’s email address after submission at the moment. May be they will send it later.

To check your application submission status, you need to log in to your profile to check wether it has been submitted successfully.

9. Is OTP Required?

One Time Password (OTP) is not required in the initial stage of the application process. Once you created an account using your personal information, you can login using email and National Identification Number (NIN).

10. How to Continue After Creating an Account

After successfully creating an application account:

  • Login using your credentials
  • Click Continue.
  • Complete all application sections
  • Upload all required documents.
  • Submit your application and print the reference slip.

What Applicants Should Know Before Applying

Take note of these before starting your application:

  • Submission of application and the recruitment process are free.
  • Multiple applications are prohibited
  • Upload all the necessary documents needed for the recruitment.
  • Make sure your email address and phone number are active.
