The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has announced vacancies for suitably qualified candidates who are high performing, innovative and possess the ability to meet deadlines. The recruitment exercise is aimed at filling various positions across the Authority’s port operations in Lagos, Port Harcourt, Onne, Warri and Calabar.
The recruitment covers different positions and qualifications which include marine operations, engineering, communications, harbour management and other technical areas. The Nigerian Ports Authority is a federal government agency responsible for Ports administration across different locations in the country.

- Pilot Trainee – JSS 2 (GL 06)
- Marine Engineering Trainee – JSS 2 (GL 06).

Available Positions and Qualifications
1. Pilot Trainee – JSS 2 (GL 06)
Applicants for the Pilot Trainee position must possess the following requirements:
- Possess a minimum of Ordinary National Diploma (OND) in Nautical Science or Marine Engineering.
- Passed the Seafarers Medical Fitness Certificate.
- Five credit passes in WAEC, NECO or it’s equivalent.
- Applicants age must between 20 to 27 years.
- Applicants with ICT knowledge will have an added advantage.
2. Marine Engineering Trainee – JSS 2 (GL 06)
The requirements for Marine Engineering Trainee are the same to the Pilot Trainee position.
- Possess a minimum of Ordinary National Diploma (OND) in Nautical Science or Marine Engineering.
- Passed the Seafarers Medical Fitness Certificate.
- Have Five credit passes in WAEC, NECO or it’s equivalent.
- Applicants age must between 20 to 27 years.
- Applicants with ICT knowledge will have an added advantage.
3. Trainee Seaman – JSS 3 (GL 04)
- Applicants must possess five credit passes in Sciences in WAEC, NECO or it’s equivalent at not more than two sittings.
- English language and Mathematics must be included in the required credits.
- Only candidates who obtained their SSCE certificates within the last eight (8) years are eligible to apply.
- Applicants with ICT knowledge will have an added advantage.
- Applicants age must between 18 to 25 years.
4. Signalman-in-Training – JSS 3 (GL 04)
- Applicants must possess five credit passes in Sciences in WAEC, NECO or it’s equivalent at not more than two sittings.
- English language and Mathematics must be included in the required credits.
- Only candidates who obtained their SSCE certificates within the last eight (8) years are eligible to apply.
- Applicants with ICT knowledge will have an added advantage.
- Applicants age must between 18 to 25 years.
5. Radio Officer II – SSS 4 (GL 08)
Applicants under this category are expected to possess th following requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or Information Technology.
- Possess a Standard of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW 95).
- Have Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) certification.
- Posses a relevant professional certification required by the position.
- Applicants age must between 23 to 35 years.
6. Assistant Manager Radio – SSS 1 (GL 12).
Candidates applying for Assistant Manager Radio are expected to possess:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or Information Technology.
- Possess a Standard of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW 95).
- Have Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) certification.
- Have a minimum of 10 years of cognate experience.
- Applicant’s age should not exceed 35 years.
7. Marine Officer II – SSS 4 (GL 08)
The Marine Officer II position requires applicants to have:
- OND in Nautical Science.
- COW (Unlimited) Certificate of Competency.
- Seafarers Medical Certificate.
- Applicants age must between 22 to 35 years.
8. Senior Marine Officer/Engineer – SSS 2 (GL 10)
Candidates for this position should have:
- Class 2 Certificate of Competency (Deck).
- Chief Mate Unlimited or 1st Mate Certificate.
- Mandatory certificates applicable to the position.
- Seafarers Medical Certificate.
- Applicants age must between 25 to 35 years.
9. Assistant Manager Harbours – SSS 1 (GL 12)
Applicants for Assistant Manager Harbours are expected to possess:
- Class 1 Certificate of Competency (Deck) Unlimited.
- Mandatory certificates applicable to the position.
- Seafarers Medical Certificate.
- Applicants age must between 25 to 35 years.
The recruitment publication also pointed that applicants must a swimming ability as prerequisite for all the positions.
