About Jigawa State Tsangaya Education Board (JSTEB)

The Jigawa State Tsangaya Education Board (JSTEB) was created by the State government to tackle and address the long-standing challenge of child street begging associated with the Almajiri system.

The Tsangaya Education is backed by substantial funding and a well-defined implementation strategy, the State Government is transforming islamic education to provide thousands of vulnerable children with access to quality education, vocational skills and a pathway to a more dignified and productive life.

Tsangaya education is a traditional, community based Islamic education system that has been practiced in Northern Nigeria and parts of neighboring countries for a long period of time. It primarily focuses on Qur’anic memorization, Islamic studies and the teaching of moral values to learners.

Nigerian Government in its education reforms has tried to integrate modern curriculum and subjects such as English, Mathematics, Science and vocational skills into the Tsangaya system to provide students with a more balanced education and improve their future opportunities.

Qualifications

Suitably qualified Jigawa State Indigenes with the following qualifications are eligible to apply for the J-Tsangaya Programme:

1. Graduates with Bachelor’s Degrees and Higher National Diploma (HND) Qualifications with NYSC/Exemption Certificate.

2. Nigerian Certificate of Education (NCE) holders with the following subjects:

English language
Mathematics
Social studies
Basic Science
Arabic studies
Islamic studies
Computer studies

3. Alarammas (Holy Qur’an Memorizers) with evidence (Shahada)/certificate.

4. Health Personnel with National Diploma and Certificates in:

Community Health Extension Workers (CHEW).

5. Cleaners vacancy, anyone with either formal education or not but preferably with a minimum of Primary School leaving Certificate.
